Matt Nisbett is a primitive skills practicioner and student of the renowned survival instructor Tom Brown, Jr..
After a lifetime of conventional food consumption, I began to feel that there had to be a better way to nourish my body and my spirit with food. This feeling led to years of experimenting with different ways of eating “healthy,” which only left me frustrated and feeling like there had to be a better way. I had recently ceased being a vegan when I attended my first class at Tom’s school. Still uncomfortable with eating meat, I began to contemplate hunting as a more harmonious way of obtaining animal protein.
After years of wondering if I could ever take the life of another animal, I decided with some trepidation to give hunting and primitive trapping a try. It is now my obsession. After a few years of compulsive practice, I have come close to attaining the goal of providing myself with all my protein needs exclusively via hunting, trapping, and fishing. In that time I have seen my physical health and vitality increase dramatically, and have felt a spiritual transformation take place that has brought me great happiness.
The profound and positive changes in health and spirit that I have experienced from engaging in these activities and nourishing myself with wild game, have inspired me to share my experience with others. I truly believe that the efforts of obtaining, and the benefits of eating wild game are essential to optimal human health and are a return to the most natural and healthful human traditions.
